Quick Tips for Getting Your Content on Twitter

Tips for Getting Retweets

While quality content is important, even some of the best and prolific information doesn’t get twitted. Here are some quick and easy tips to getting people to Tweet and Re-Tweet your information.

Informative & Entertaining Tweets
Content that is informative or entertaining spreads well. Informative and entertaining tweets are hidden gems that get attention while tweets of personal observations go in one ear and out the other. If you want your tweets to spread, their value has to be readily apparent.

Reader Focused Tweets
Focus your tweets on the user. Tweets that focus on nouns like, you and yours are more re-tweet-able. Self-centered tweets tend to be less sharable.

Ask & You Shall Receive (even in Twitter)
If you add “Please Retweet” to a tweet, people are more likely to share it. The same goes for other calls to action; telling people what to do increases their likelihood of following through. Placing Twitter icons next to your content is another way of asking for a tweet.  (Have we mentioned that we would love for your to Tweet a link to this blog?)

Mix Up Your Tweets
Even the best practices don’t work as well if used to excess. Mix up your calls to action and show variety.  Experiment with different tactics and develop patterns that help their content find new audiences without becoming stale.

Understand Your Twitter Audience
Understanding your audience, what they like, what they need and what they believe others in their network are likely to benefit from. Find a way to make your good ideas useful and relevant to your Twitter Audience.

Add a Link
Usually a link goes to more relevant information. People love relevant information so add a link to your tweet and you are more likely to get retweeted. (Tweeting a link to this blog is a good idea!)

Say Thank You
People like to be acknowledged when they retweet your post. Showing your appreciation may help you get future retweets! (Thanks for Tweeting about us!)
